Why the packs ride in the car
Our family has a long line of service members. When service runs in your family, you learn that the best thank-you happens in person.
So we keep care packs in the car: water, wool socks, a hygiene kit, food, hand warmers, first aid, a card with local resources, and a note signed by hand. When we meet a veteran, or a neighbor starting over after a fire or a lost job, we hand one over and say thanks.
We don't take photos of the people we meet. When we share anything, we share totals. Respect comes first, and nobody owes us a smile for a camera.
Every holiday season we throw parties and fund toy drives alongside local law enforcement. It's the best week of our year, and a good reminder of how much a small, personal gesture can carry.
