The quiet outsourcing of judgment

Much of the harm we watch is quiet. It looks like asking a model what to do, every day.

Ask a room of adults where AI shows up and you hear about work tools. Ask where judgment slips away from the person and you hear something quieter: symptom checkers treated as a diagnosis, investment chat treated as advice, relationship scripts treated as counsel.

We call this delegated judgment. Sometimes it's fine, and a second look can be useful. The pattern that concerns us is outsourcing by default, with no checking, no pushback, and no second opinion from a person.

Academy Steps 1 and 2 are being designed for exactly this: help people get comfortable with AI while keeping their own judgment in charge.

For the concern behind this note, see our brief on everyday judgment and our view on understanding over fear.
