Advancing Humans*
in the age of Artificial Intelligence

Taylor Good / Founding Director
An Introduction.
Artificial Intelligence is about to become ordinary infrastructure in how we make decisions, go to school, work, and run our homes. It will arrive quietly and then be everywhere, and most people will meet it without a map.
Some of it is already showing up: people handing everyday judgment to a model, kids absorbing AI on top of already heavy screen time, cognitive work buying less dignity, lonely people finding a machine confidant, and agents entering the home with no rules and a green light that feels like safety.
I see this from the inside. As COO of Entropy Index, a risk intelligence firm, I run a small core team alongside deeply complex AI systems, often more than 1,000 agents at once, working autonomously. How fast all of it is moving, for better or worse, is a big part of why The Good Institute exists.
We study what Artificial Intelligence does to emotions, judgment, childhood, work, and the home. We publish what we are watching and what we believe, and we don't sell fear. Good Edu is the civic layer — literacy and confidence for youth to elderly without fear marketing. Good Academy is the ladder: Rocket, Moonshot, and Happy, built from Institute research so people use AI without handing themselves over to it.
Our job is to help people understand what is happening and stay the authors of their own lives.

Public Perception vs The Good Institute
Two computed readings and the miss between them. On a 0–100 scale, 0 is calm and 100 is already past where the condition holds.
Public Perception is how alarmed the public and lawmakers already are, measured from published polling and enacted law. The Good Institute needle is the load, measured from published surveys of how people actually use AI. Every indicator is scored against thresholds we fixed in advance. The difference between the two needles is the miss, and that is our alarm. When a channel doesn't have enough sourced indicators yet, it shows as pending until the sources are there to score it.

Scored from published polling and enacted law. A calm reading here doesn't mean things are safe.
What / whyPublished surveys of how the tools are actually used, scored against fixed thresholds.
What / whyThe miss
Load minus perception. When it is positive, the condition is heavier than it is treated.

Everyday judgment leaving the person
We mean the quiet, everyday habit of asking a model what is true, what to buy, what to say to a partner, or what a symptom means.

What we're reading
What we study
We study what Artificial Intelligence does to emotions, judgment, childhood, work, and the home. Findings will shape Academy lessons. They are never used to diagnose anyone, and by policy they never draw on Good Health records.
Thinking
How people think and recover attention
Attention, emotion, judgment, recovery, and long-term thinking: how minds stay sharp when AI is always available.
OpenHarm
When AI use starts to hurt
Dependency, confusion, crisis patterns, and the everyday outsourcing of hard decisions, studied carefully and without scare tactics.
OpenEvidence
What the research and incidents show
A continuous read of studies, case reports, and platform disclosures. Each one is dated, ranked by source quality, and meant to feed into teaching.
OpenLife change
How work and identity are changing
How livelihood and self-worth change over time when cognitive work no longer buys the same security.
OpenBy age
How use looks from child to adult
Real patterns by age, from screens and homework helpers to companions and early agents, so teaching matches how people actually use AI.
OpenHome agents
AI agents in the household
How prepared families run agent tools on purpose, with house rules, oversight, and clear limits on what can send on its own.
OpenObservations
Dated writing that goes deeper than the agenda above.

Attention is the first capacity
Before judgment leaves the person, attention usually leaves first — and recovery gets harder when a model is always ready.
