Tweens, teens, and AI: a summer 2026 read

What published surveys suggest about screen time, AI use, and the literacy gap.

Surveys we've reviewed this summer point where many parents already feel it: tween and teen screen time is high, and AI use is no longer theoretical.

Homework helpers are the polite way in. Companion chat and image tools usually follow. Norms around who actually wrote something are breaking down unevenly. Some schools are holding the line, and many aren't.

We don't publish scare charts. We're building an age-by-age picture of how young people use AI: as a tool, a companion, a shortcut, or an early agent. Rocket Factory and Moonshot Camp will be built from it.

Teaching literacy before access is still the answer we believe in.
